Houghton Feast Whole Ox Roasting

The Old Rectory - Houghton-le-Spring

Saturday 09 Oct 2021 15:00

HOUGHTON FEAST WHOLE OX ROAST:
OX SANDWICHES

A roasted whole ox, prepared overnight by The Houghton Feast Trust, will be served up in sandwiches in the grounds of The Old Rectory, near The Broadway, Houghton-le-Spring, where the first oxen were roasted by Rector Bernard Gilpin to feed Houghton’s poor in the 16th century.

The ceremonial first slice will be carved by the Right worshipful, the Mayor of Sunderland, Councillor Henry Trueman.  All proceeds from the sale of the tasty sandwiches will be used towards next year’s event.

We expect this event to be busy, so please be prepared to queue.
The ox sandwiches are very popular and do sell out quickly and are therefore available strictly while stocks last.

All children must be accompanied by an appropriate adult.
